A hand-painted garden, classic tower defense. A fan-made HTML tower-defense game you can play offline.

Garden Defenders is a fan-made, open-source HTML tower-defense game in the style of the original Plants vs. Zombies. You place plants in a lawn grid to stop waves of zombies from reaching the house, with sunlight as the currency you spend on new plants. The art is hand-painted rather than copied, and the whole game runs offline in the browser.

It is published on GitHub Pages by seth-xh. We keep a full mirror (about 6 MB including all sprites and sounds) so it stays playable here even if the original repository moves.

How to play Plants vs Zombies · Garden Defenders

  1. Collect the sun that falls from the sky or is produced by sunflowers by clicking it.
  2. Pick a plant from the tray at the top and click a lawn tile to place it. Each plant has a cost and a cooldown.
  3. Shooters attack down their row; walls stall zombies; producers make more sun. Balance all three.
  4. Zombies arrive in waves shown on the progress bar. Survive every wave to clear the level.

Click Fullscreen above the game for the largest play area. If the game does not load, use Open in new tab to play it directly from our copy.

Why it's worth your time

The mirror is served from this site's own Cloudflare hosting with a one-day cache, so the first visit downloads the sprite sheets once and later visits are instant. It plays with a mouse or a finger; there is no keyboard control. On small phones the lawn grid is cramped — a tablet or laptop is a better fit.

It is one of the few games here that ships its source publicly, so the copy we host is exactly the repository's own build. At about 6 MB it is one of the heaviest in the collection, almost entirely because of the hand-painted sprite sheets.

How it was made and where it lives

Published on GitHub Pages from a public repository. The author publishes as seth-xh. Original: https://seth-xh.github.io/pvz/. The Play button above runs our own unmodified copy, so the game keeps working here if that page goes down — which on free hosting usually has nothing to do with the author. Nothing about the game itself is changed, and the original stays linked from every page.

For the other fan remakes in the collection see Mushroom Arcade (platformer), Balatro web edition (deckbuilder) and DUST II · Desert Ops (map explorer). For another game that runs fully offline from a mirror, Infinite Garden is the largest single-file build here.
