Good to knowTap-to-walk and the on-screen Dodge button both work on an emulated phone (390x844 portrait and 844x390 landscape, no horizontal overflow), and the whole HUD restacks for portrait. Landscape is cramped: the mission card and camera buttons cover part of the island, and the giant's name label overlaps the cave label. We could not test two-finger pinch or drag-to-pan on a real device, and Shift-sprint has no touch button (the phone hint says tapping runs you).

Tripo's recreation of Jason Chew's Odyssey island idea, not Jason Chew's own build: as Odysseus you sneak three crewmen to a sleeping Polyphemus's cave, steal the supplies, then survive his telegraphed ground slams for 11 seconds at the jetty while your ship boards. Chew's own version was a pixel-art walk-around diorama, a different build.

ODYSSEY: The Cyclops' Island is a short escape game set on the island from Book IX of the Odyssey. You play Odysseus, with three crewmen trailing behind, on a small isle in a teal sea: walk up the sandy path to a cave where Polyphemus is asleep, steal the supplies, and get back to the red-sailed ship at the south jetty before he catches you. Once you know the timing, a winning run takes under a minute.

It is not Jason Chew's game. It is a recreation made by Jared at Tripo, a 3D-asset company, and published on Tripo's own tripo.page hosting on 16 September 2026. Tripo's prompt page calls it a remix of Jason Chew's Odyssey island concept; this entry lists Tripo's build, not Chew's. Chew's own version is a different build, described below.

What Jason Chew actually posted, on 14 September 2026, was a prompt plus a 23-second clip of GPT-6 Astra's result: a small isometric island in a pixel-art, 1990s strategy-RPG style, with Odysseus walking to a cave. His prompt asks for a walk-around diorama with WASD and click-to-walk, camera controls, collision, and a dark UI panel whose only instruction is to lead Odysseus along the sandy path to the cave. In the clip's still frame (we did not watch the clip itself) the island looks textured and pixelated, with a Cyclops in the cave mouth, a small Odysseus, a ship offshore, and Pause and Reset view buttons. The post contains no link to a playable copy, and we did not find one.

Tripo's rebuild keeps the setting and the walk to the cave and adds most of the game: three crewmen, a suspicion meter, a supply pickup, a boss with telegraphed attacks, hearts, stamina, a dodge, and win and lose screens. The look differs too: smooth, lit low-poly 3D with a cream-and-teal interface rather than pixel art.

How to play ODYSSEY: The Cyclops' Island

  1. Click or tap the ground and Odysseus walks there, routing around trees and rocks, or steer with WASD or the arrow keys. Movement is relative to the camera, so if you rotate the view (Q and R, or the round arrows bottom right) the keys turn with it. Drag pans, scroll zooms, F follows the hero.
  2. The mission card at bottom left walks you through three stages. Stage one, Follow the sandy path: reach the cave without dawdling. A suspicion bar fills as you get near or run noisily, and the giant's state, shown under his name at the top, goes from ASLEEP to SUSPICIOUS to AWAKENED. When we stood near the cave for a few seconds he woke on his own. Stage two, In the giant's shadow: press E, or the Collect supplies button on the mission card once you are close (pressed from further away, Odysseus walks over to the supplies first). Taking the supplies always wakes him, so the stealth part is about how much of a head start you get, not about avoiding a fight.
  3. Stage three, Run for the ship: get to the marked jetty on the south shore and stay inside the ring while the mission title counts down from 11 seconds. Polyphemus chases, then stops to wind up a Ground Breaker: an orange circle appears where you were standing, the banner reads CHARGING GROUND BREAKER, and a moment later the slam lands. Every third attack is instead a Rift Wave, an expanding shockwave ring you have to dodge through. Each hit costs one of your three hearts. Space dodges (it costs roughly a fifth of the stamina bar, and per Tripo's prompt page it gives a brief window where you cannot be hurt), and Shift sprints, draining the same bar. Per Tripo's prompt page, stepping out of the jetty ring pauses the countdown rather than resetting it.
  4. Win and the screen says The wind fills your sails, with a stats line (ours read 0m 37s explored, 22m walked, 2 attacks evaded, All 3 crew safe) and buttons for Bring my own hero, Begin again and Stay and explore. Lose all three hearts and you get The island keeps its secrets and a Try again button. We lost several times before we found the dodge timing, roughly 0.9 seconds after the charging banner appears, and won on a later try with one heart left.
  5. P pauses, the question-mark button lists the keys, and the speaker button turns on ambient sound, which starts off (we did not listen to it).

Controls: WASD or the arrow keys move Odysseus (relative to the camera); click or tap the ground to have him walk there by the shortest path. Hold Shift to sprint, press Space (or the on-screen Dodge button) to dodge, and press E near the supplies to take them. Q and R rotate the view, F follows the hero, P pauses; drag pans and scroll or pinch zooms. The Tripo World / Original switch at top right swaps the models without restarting.

Why it's worth your time

Tripo publishes recreations like this to show off its prompts and its 3D-asset product. The game is open about it: the corner credit says 3D assets by Tripo, and the top-right card, One island. Two worlds., is a live before-and-after switch. Tripo World shows the detailed models; Original swaps in plain Three.js shapes (rounded blob trees, a squat wooden ship, a blocky giant) and changes the footer to Built with Three.js. Read this carefully: in that switch, Original means Tripo's own placeholder models, not Jason Chew's original game. The in-game help says switching keeps your progress; we flipped it back and forth at the start of a run and it worked, but did not try it mid-chase.

The finished game also invites you to bring your own hero: a dialog offers a Create my hero link that opens Tripo Studio in a new tab (a Tripo website, so it needs the internet) and an option that takes a .glb file up to 30 MB from your own computer. That second path works offline: we loaded the giant's model as the hero, and a Restore Odysseus button undoes it.

Every catalogue entry on this site was found through Tripo's GPT-6 Astra prompt collection, and this one comes from Tripo's page for its own rebuild; the credit for the idea stays with Jason Chew, whose post is linked in the box under this write-up.

Under the hood, the hero and the giant are the two models named as animated (Tripo's prompt page lists walk, run, sleep, dodge and strike animations), and the three crewmen reuse the hero's model. The ship, an olive tree and the cave are models without skeletons; terrain, water, effects and interface are drawn in code. The mirror is about 19 MB, its largest file under 5 MB.

Two honest limits. It is one short scenario, over in under a minute once you know the timing, so do not expect an Odyssey adventure. And on a phone in landscape the interface crowds the island, so use portrait.

How it was made and where it lives

Published on tripo.page, the hosting Tripo (a 3D-asset company) uses for the recreations of GPT-6 Astra demos in its prompt collection. The author publishes as Jared. Original: https://cyclops-island.tripo.page/. The Play button above runs our own unmodified copy, so the game keeps working here if that page goes down — which on free hosting usually has nothing to do with the author. Nothing about the game itself is changed, and the original stays linked from every page.

A recreation, not the original

Tripo recreation, adapted from Jason Chew. This page plays Jared's build, made at Tripo (16 September 2026) from the idea and prompt in Jason Chew's post. It is not Jason Chew's own build, and Jason Chew has not endorsed this copy. Tripo publishes these builds to show how a prompt turns into a playable scene, so expect a Tripo Studio pitch on their own pages.

If you like ODYSSEY: The Cyclops' Island, try these

Tripo made several of these rebuilds from other people's Astra prompts, and Jelly Jungle is another one in the catalogue, in a very different genre (a jelly platformer). For a 3D game that is also about dodging and positioning against enemies you can see coming, try Sundown Showdown, a last-brawler-standing arena.

Frequently asked questions

Is this Jason Chew's game?
No. It is Tripo's recreation, built by Jared at Tripo and hosted on tripo.page, adapted from Jason Chew's Odyssey island concept. Chew's own version was a pixel-art walk-around diorama shown in a clip on X, and it is a different build.
Can I play Jason Chew's original?
We found no playable link. His post has a prompt and a short video, and no link to a live copy. The only playable version we could find is Tripo's.
What does the Original button mean?
It is a Tripo switch: Original shows the game with plain, basic Three.js shapes instead of Tripo's detailed models. It has nothing to do with Jason Chew's original build.
Do I fight the Cyclops?
No, there is no attack button; you only run and dodge. The goal is to take the supplies, reach the south jetty, and survive there for 11 seconds while dodging his ground slams and shockwaves.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Tap to walk and the Dodge button work on an emulated phone, and portrait fits well. Landscape is cramped, and we could not test pinch or pan.
Does it need the internet?
Only the Create my hero link, which opens Tripo Studio, needs the network. The game itself runs from this site's copy.
Is ODYSSEY: The Cyclops' Island free to play?
Yes. Everything on Floating Arcade is free, with no account, ads or downloads.
Can I embed this game on my own website?
Yes — copy the snippet below. The embedded player links back here, which is how we ask to be credited.
